Reflecting on the past year and looking ahead, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve as the MLA for Salmon Arm-Shuswap.
The past year has been both challenging and inspiring. It has been a year of listening, learning and laying the groundwork for the priorities we hope to achieve in the months and years ahead.
Across our region, I have seen firsthand the resilience, hard work and community spirit that makes Salmon Arm-Shuswap a special place. Whether it’s our local businesses adapting to new realities, families supporting each other, or volunteers stepping up to help their neighbours, the strength of our communities shines through. It’s a reminder of why I sought this role in the first place: to be a voice for our region and an advocate for the issues that matter.
During my brief time in office, I have focused on meeting and listening to community groups, local leaders, small businesses and individuals to better understand their needs and concerns. Improving communication between stakeholders and government is paramount. I’m committed to ensuring that our region receives its fair share of investments to support our communities, businesses and families.
To better serve you, the Salmon Arm constituency office is relocating to a storefront location. Additionally, we will establish a satellite office in Armstrong to ensure we are responsive and accessible to constituents across the region. These offices will provide a place to share concerns, seek assistance and connect with my team.
Looking ahead, there is much work to do. Affordability remains one of the most pressing issues, and I will push for policies that address this concern, along with attainable housing options to support families, seniors, and workers.
Supporting healthcare is also critical; ensuring our health-care facilities and professionals have the resources they need.
Economic development is another priority for our region. Salmon Arm-Shuswap is rich with opportunity – from agriculture and forestry to tourism and small businesses – and I will work to support growth, innovation, and job creation. A strong, diverse economy benefits everyone in our region and provides the stability we need to address other challenges.
In addition to my work as MLA, I am honoured to serve as the Opposition Critic for BC Hydro and Electricity Self-Sufficiency. This role allows me to hold the government accountable on energy issues, advocate for policies that promote sustainable energy solutions, and ensure that electricity remains reliable and affordable for all British Columbians. As we face the challenges of energy demand and climate change, I will advocate for solutions that balance environmental responsibility with economic growth.
Progress comes when we work together: local government, businesses, non-profits and individuals all playing their part to make our communities stronger. I am committed to being a collaborative and responsive representative, ensuring your voices are heard in Victoria and that your concerns are turned into action.
As we look to the future, I remain optimistic about what can be achieved. The challenges are substantial, but they also present a meaningful way to shape a brighter future for our families and communities. Thank you for the trust you have placed in me.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, happy, and healthy year ahead.
